KITCHENER —
Wal-Mart is known for selling everything from clothing to television to fresh produce, and now they can be known for everything else --green energy.
On Wednesday, the company\'s representative hosted a rooftop solar installation tour at the top of Walmart, the boardwalk on IRA Avenue.
According to Kitchener, there are a total of 50 units and 1,000 solar panels capable of generating about 450,000 KW hours of energy per year or enough to power about 46 homes
Wilmot hydropower uses household energy on average every year.
Wal-Mart calculated 39 houses in different ways.

It can rotate and tilt so that the panel can be fully affected by the sun\'s light at any time of the day.
\"Independent solar panels won\'t bask in the sun in orbit, so the system allows for the expected 30 cents higher power output,\" said Chris Leou, Canada\'s Wal-Mart energy efficiency manager.
The project, along with the wind turbine installation launched by Milton Wal-Mart, represents the company\'s $2 million investment in green energy.
Electricity generated at the Kitchener location will be sold back to the grid through government feed

The project, launched in 2009 with the Green Energy Act, is supervised by the Ontario Electric Power Authority and aims to promote clean energy power generation projects in the province.
The energy prices that Wal-Mart gets mean that if they reach production forecasts within a year, it could bring more than $320,000 in revenue to stores, totaling $6.

Green energy power generation is one of the cornerstone of the company\'s global environmental goals, which is to generate zero waste, to sell products that maintain human and environmental conditions, powered by 100 of renewable energy.
While solar roofs will not be used to power stores, Wal-Mart\'s representative says they are helping the overall energy structure in Ontario.
\"We can\'t guarantee 100 of renewable energy because we don\'t know what source of electricity we use,\" said Christine Bloom, director of government affairs.
\"This is just a further step in ensuring more renewable energy access to the grid.
Matthew Dai of Sustainable Waterloo sees Wal-Mart\'s actions as a positive sign and says
In terms of tariff rates, more companies are turning to green energy to generate electricity.
