Stadium worker died of ‘blunt force injuries’

The construction worker who suffered a fatal injury while working on the Vikings stadium Wednesday died as a result of “blunt force injuries of the head following a fall” at the construction site, the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s office said Friday.

Jeramie Gruber, a 35-year-old employee of Berwald Roofing & Sheet Metal in North St. Paul and a Northfield resident, fell about 50 feet into a snow gutter from the stadium’s roof at 7:45 Wednesday morning.

A press release from the Medical Examiner’s office said Gruber died at about 8:31 a.m. at Hennepin County Medical Center, which is near the stadium site.

Another worker, who hasn’t been identified, was injured.

The injured worker, also an employee of Berwald, “suffered a deep cut on his leg, requiring 48 stitches and staples,” Berwald said Thursday in a statement. The injured worker was released Thursday from HCMC.

The Occupational Health and Safety Administration and the Medical Examiner’s office are investigating the incident, the Medical Examiner’s office said.

Funeral services for Gruber are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Aug. 31 at First English Lutheran Church in Faribault, according to an online obituary.

The obituary described Gruber as a “kind, honest, loving man,” who “would help anyone that needed a helping hand.” He “enjoyed fishing, hunting and the outdoors,” and “spending time with his wife and their dog, Girl,” the obituary noted.

He’s survived by his wife, Amy; his parents, Kim Love and Daniel Gruber Sr.; his brother, Dan Gruber, and other family members.
