New bids will be sought to reroof the village’s department of public works building, the Addison Village Council decided at its meeting Tuesday.
The council in May approved a $5,831 bid from Jeremy Milks Construction to place a new roof atop the building’s existing roof at 315 E. Main St., next to the Addison Fire Department. The council received eight bids from which to choose at the time.
Last month, Milks submitted a change order request to add $1,000 to his previous bid to remove one layer of roofing material and replace it with sheet metal roofing, after finding the shingles needed to be removed. However, it was later discovered there were two layers of materials that needed to be removed in order to properly finish the job.
Clerk Julie Hackett said she consulted with Milks on the council’s wishes to have both layers taken off. Hackett said Milks agreed new bids should be sought for the project, as he said he could not do the extra work for $6,831.
Sealed bids are due to the village office by Friday, Oct. 2, and will be examined at the Oct. 5 meeting.
